Nominations open for the Sport Waitākere Excellence Awards

Which local sports stars will join the likes of former All Black, Michael Jones, Olympic rower, Mahè Drysdale, Commonwealth Games gold medallist discus thrower Beatrice Faumuina and have their names etched in time at the Sport Waitākere Excellence Awards?

Nominations are now open for rising local sports stars, teams and clubs who have done West Auckland proud over the past 12 months.

Sport Waitākere Chief Executive Officer, Lynette Adams, recognises the importance of celebrating local sporting talent and volunteers.

“Many of New Zealand’s sportspeople and emerging athletes have roots in Waitākere, now is our chance to celebrate their achievements. An incredible amount of time and commitment is dedicated to their chosen sport and we want to acknowledge them at the 2019 Sport Waitākere Excellence Awards.

This is also a great opportunity to celebrate those who support sport – the administrators, coaches, officials and volunteers who generously spend their time supporting our athletes to be the very best they can be.”

How to nominate a sports star

Sport Waitākere is urging clubs, schools, sports organisations and parents to fill in a short and simple nomination form so the achievements of West Auckland’s rising sports stars can be celebrated. There are 17 categories to enter, ensuring achievements across the sport community in West Auckland are acknowledged.

A panel of independent judges will then select category finalists, with the winners announced at the The Trusts Sport Waitākere Excellence Awards Dinner at Trusts Arena on Friday 8th November.

To make a nomination, visit the The Trusts Sport Waitākere Excellence Awards website. The awards will recognise achievements from 1st October 2018 to 30th September 2019.

We are proud to support the Sport Waitakere Excellence Awards as part of our giving back programme. Through this programme we gave back $2.5m to West Auckland in the 2018/19 financial year. This year we are growing our giving back to $3.5m, and we are aiming to lift this amount to $5m per year as soon as possible. Learn more about The Trusts giving back here.
